From Vessel to Marine Habitat
Originally constructed in 1955, the LEF1 served various roles before being decommissioned and repurposed as an artificial reef. Prior to its submersion, the vessel underwent extensive preparations to ensure environmental safety and diver accessibility. Hazardous materials were removed, and strategic openings were created to allow safe penetration for divers.
Diving Experience
The LEF1 offers a captivating experience for divers and snorkelers alike. With its shallow depth and clear visibility ranging from 15 to 25 meters, the wreck is accessible year-round. The structure’s design allows for safe exploration, making it an excellent site for practicing diving skills and underwater photography.
Marine Life Flourishing
Since its sinking, the LEF1 has become a thriving habitat for a diverse array of marine species. Divers can encounter various fish and invertebrates, including amberjack, damselfish, gobies, groupers, lionfish, parrotfish, and yellowspotted pufferfish. The MPA’s ongoing conservation efforts, including the placement of eco-friendly amphorae, continue to enhance biodiversity in the area.
